It's been over twenty years since the end of the second wizarding war and the Battle of Hogwarts and things are as normal as it can be. The scars of the war still linger, but time moves on, and Hogwarts will always be there to welcome you home. Mad World is a next generation intermediate to advanced roleplay site.

A book sat open in front of the blank mind of Mei. What had just happened. Oh yeah, she had come to the library intending to study history of magic, when she opened the book and started reading, her mind started to drift off. Ugh, niw she couldn't remember where she started to drift away from the confusing jumble of words that spiraled off into her mind. Ogre war? Goblins rebellion? If she were to take the history of magic owl now, she knew she would fail miserably. After flipping back a couple of pages she found her spot, and started reading she flopped her head down against the book from boredom. She couldn't stand it any more.
Sitting up she quietly closed the book and put it on one of the passing floating book stacks to br magically put away. Getting up she moved to the potions section, looking for a more interesting book to study. Maybe a love potions book. Those were always interesting. She pulled one down and flipped to a random page and started reading. After a moment she realized it was a book about the different types of love potions at that joke shop the weasleys owned. How they managed to come up with such a variety of different potions and affects surprised her, but was interested anyways, so she continued reading.
rylen - others For someone who was supposed to be one of his best friends (and really, she was,) Everleigh sure liked to make him do his own research instead of just letting him borrow her notes. Of course, it had been like that since first year, when Ever had all but outright stated she wasn't doing his work for him, which he didn't expect. Help was nice though, especially when it was something she understood and he didn't (usually due to his muggleborn status, though by now it didn't happen nearly as often. If he didn't get something these days, she generally didn't either.) Either way, Everleigh wouldn't lend him notes for the paper Professor Barnes had assigned which meant going to the library to do his own research. Joy. It could've been worse - at least Rylen was pretty good at defence against the dark arts. It wasn't potions. Neither him nor Everleigh were all that good at potions (Azriel was, but Azzy was only a fourth year, which didn't hep anything, at all.)
Slipping into the library, Rylen left his backpack at a table and headed off to find books. The text book would be an okay start, but they were fifth years; it would take more than the text book to write the entire two feet of parchment that Professor Barnes had assigned. Not that it was really a lot, Ry had come to realize; a foot of parchment was only about a page, which wasn't that much, even if he didn't really want to write a paper on the history of the patronus charm. It wasn't exactly the most interesting thing ever - but Professor Barnes had said it was better to get the boring papers out of the way, so they had more time for practical application. Or something like that. Ry'd only been half paying attention (not his fault DADA was first thing in the morning, when he was still waking up.)
(bit weird... and feels short, even though it's really not... but yeah. brain's still a bit all over the place, but ry was talking)
After reading a few pages on how each potion worked she closed it quietly and placed it back where she found it along the rows of potion books. The time for games was over, now it was time to get back to work. Moving quietly back to the history shelves she found the book she was looking for. The History of Defense Against the Dark Arts. That was the book title. Very interesting. Real page turner. Mei rolled her eyes and moved the book off the shelf, keeping it steady as the heavy book weighed her down. She brought it over to one of the tables and it lounded with a resounding noise. She could hear someone whisper harshly to quiet down. She cringed. It wasn't her fault the book was a large, annoying book.
Opening the page she needed to get too she took out her already half-finished piece of parchment and her quill, before starting to write. It was so dull though, she just wanted to doze off.... if she just let her head down like this no one would notice right.... she snapped her eyes open. No, she had to finish this dull, dreary task.
Out of Character: xD its ok. Sorry this ones short. Im sick right now and its draining the muse
rylen - others Wandering through the shelves, Rylen picked out a couple of books that may or may not be helpful. If he couldn't find enough for the paper, he'd just go pester Everleigh and complain she was going to let him fail. She'd give in eventually. Probably at least. If only to get him to shut up. It happened. Frankly, Ever's notes were generally better than his no matter what, and it wasn't like he was asking her to do his paper, just let him see her notes. He'd bug her about it before class or something tomorrow. Ugh, why were papers so boring? He realized writing a paper for defence against the dark arts had to be ten times more interesting than anything his muggle friends had to write, and for that fact alone he was glad he was attending Hogwarts and not a muggle high school, but still. It was boring, probably because it was school, a wizarding school or not.
Grabbing another book that seemed as thought it might be helpful (or at least vaguely interesting,) Rylen headed back to where he'd left his bag. He hoped this didn't take too long - whether he got enough to actually write the paper, or just realized he wasn't going to find anything. Either one was fine really. He just wanted out of the library; he wasn't Ever, who didn't mind the library, or Azzy, who could probably spend the entire day in the library if someone let him.
But those were thoughts for another time; Rylen set his books down, sat down in the chair, and let out a sigh. Why was there so much writing involved in school? It didn't help his eyes didn't particularly want to focus on anything at the moment, which just made trying to read more difficult. "Great," He mumbled, leaning forward on the table. Just one more thing to make the day more annoying. At least they didn't hurt, but he'd like to actually be able to read what he was trying to read, regardless of whether he wanted to read it.
Her eyes burned from the pain of reading page after boring page. Why did History of Magic need to be so BORING. It could have actually been interesting once upon a time, but now with the teachers being ghosts and all, and with the books being written by such dull people,it took a strong mind to be able to make it through the whole boring book. A few seats down Mei could see a slytherin struggling with the same homework she was finishing up now.
"Need some help?" She whispered to him, scooting down towards him giving him a small smile, looking inside herself and turning the Veela powers from "off" to "low." This always helped in conversations a tiny bit, and making them a tiny bit more interesting too but if she wanted something fun she would have turned it up all the way.
rylen - others Rylen rubbed at his eyes, blinking a few times, as if that would make them focus. It did on occasion, and it was a habit he'd likely never be able to break. Could be worse; at least it worked sometimes. He was pretty sure he'd have to see about glasses when he went home for winter break... if he went home. If Everleigh didn't go home for one reason or another, he was staying, if only to make sure she actually ate, because that was a recent occurrence, Everleigh not eating much. As if he wouldn't catch that. He really didn't want to know what went through his friends mind sometimes. All he knew was she needed to start eating more, because it couldn't be healthy.
Focus! Ry looked up hearing someone. "Hm?" Ah, Ever's house mate. "You know anything about the history of the patronus charm?" He still couldn't fathom why Professor Barnes wanted them to learn about the history; no one cared. And it was defence against the dark arts, not history of magic. At least he could understand it if it was history of magic, that was always boring. Or, to most people it was boring. It had it's moments, but was mostly boring. It was history - it was either awful or boring, unless you were Everleigh or a handful of people who actually liked the subject, and he wasn't one of them. But again, it could've been potions, which he wasn't good at, or arithmancy, which he's pretty sure he'd fall asleep during. Had, the one time Ever tried to explain her homework to him. At least DADA was interesting ninety percent of the time, even if writing papers for it sucked.
(this feels so short even though i know it's not that short x-x no one wants to talk much orz)
After I asked the question if the boy needed help on the homework, he blearily asked me if I knew anything about the history of the patronus charm. I give a small smile and raise my eyebrows. "Well, I just did a whole paper on it sooooooo, I hope so?" I give a small smile and resisit the urge to give a laugh. I think for a moment before I realize something about him. He was some guy who always hung out with my "house mate," Everleigh. I always wondered why she hung out with a slytherin and a ravenclaw, but I guess interhouse friendships were ok? I don't know much on the topic, most of my friends were Huffflepuffs and I tried to avoid the other houses from what I saw from them: The Ravenclaws were know-it-alls, The Gryffendors were brain dead, and most of the Slytherins were snotty pure-bloods. I know, I know. I shouldn't place people I never met before into groups like that, but from the modern stereotypes which I trust, that is why I don't really go for meeting others outside Hufflepuff.
I smile at the boy and say, "So, need any help?" I relax for a moment and look inside myself, imagining the "veela machine," and turn the veela powers from "low" to "medium low." Just a notch higher. It helps in conversations sometimes.
rylen - others Blinking a few times, Ry almost let out a sigh when it became pretty clear his eyes weren't going to focus much; he gave it another ten minutes and he'd either have a headache from trying to stare at words when his eyes didn't want to, or they'd be fine. It was one or the other. Of course, knowing his luck, he'd have a headache and his eyes would focus on the words in front of him around the same time, probably about the same time he wanted to give up and go find Ever or just go back to his common room. It'd been five years, you'd think he would be used to this. And he was, mostly. It jut bugged him. Because timing was awful (though it had yet to happen during an exam, so that was good.)
Ry leaned his head on his hand, looking over at the Hufflepuff girl. Right, they were in the same year, weren't they? He was pretty sure she was on her house quidditch team, but honestly, Ry didn't pay attention to quidditch, like, ever. Wasn't his thing. Ever dragged him along to watch sometimes, and tiny Sunhwa from his house had done the same a few times, though she'd ditched him to sit with her friends to watch their Ravenclaw friend. Could be worse; at least quidditch was more interesting to watch than football or basketball... or any muggle sport, really.
He tilted his head a bit, but shrugged. "Sure." He said. "Normally I'd just get Everleigh to help me, but she's refusing to lend me her notes right now." And Azzy was a fourth year, which just screwed everything up sometimes. Only sometimes though. "I still don't get the point of this; I've never even seen a patronus in real life." Because Professor Barnes hadn't shown them yet. He got the idea, but he didn't actually know what it looked like.
I sit there for a moment, my small smile still on my face. The boy leaned on his hand and looked thoughtful for a moment, well, if it was possible for a slytherin to look thoughtful he sure did. He seemed to be thinking for a small minute, and then responded to me. He accepted and then mentioned Everleigh. I knew I knew him from Everleigh! He was always hanging around with her and that fourth year ravenclaw girl. I am still not sure about what her name was though. I smile and shrug at his sentence on proffesor Barnes. "It's history of magic, what would expect?" Then gave a small laugh.
I smile again and say, "So, what have you pulled out of the book so far? I need to know before I can help you." Hopefully he doesn't think I'm cheating, but what good reason would have to cheat after asking to help out?
Out of Character: sorry its short im running around all my rp sites right now xD
rylen - others (so azzy wanted me to point out he's a boy not a girl and quinn wanted me to point out they're the dada prof not the history of magic prof xD and they wanted me to point it out before the post, because they're both weird)
Ry blinked a few more times, mentally cursing his eyes for not wanting to focus still. It was slightly more difficult to make conversation when you couldn't get your eyes to focus on who you were talking to - not that he particularly cared about looking at who he was talking to, but details. Of course, he also didn't really know her, aside from her being Ever's house mate... Wow he needed more friends. That was a bit pathetic, honestly. Though, to be fair, a number of his house mates didn't like him anyway, because he was a muggleborn and they were still hung up on blood purity and all that bullshit that Ry didn't give two shits about.
Ry laughed a little, "Honestly, not much." He admitted, giving a small shrug. "Really advanced charm. Really, really difficult to conjure a corporeal patronus. No one knows who actually invented it because it's been around since ancient times." He leaned back in his chair, running a hand through his hair before dropping it in his lap. "The fact that I'm muggleborn probably doesn't help the fact that I don't know much about it." Well, it gave him an excuse at least. Because he'd heard of it in passing before, but it was just another of many spells he'd never heard of, so he never paid it much attention. He wasn't the type of hear something he didn't understand and then go research it. That rarely happened. If it was something really interesting sounding or because a friend mentioned it or something, then he'd look it up, but it was rare. He already had homework - he wasn't doing research for fun.
