the rules
- PG-13 - as per ProBoards terms, Mad World is a PG-13 site. If you're not sure if you can do something, ask a member of the staff, and they'll either tell you yes, or no. When it comes to stuff like this, the staff's word is law. If you post things that the staff deems inapproriate, you'll be asked to remove it; if you don't, it will be removed by the staff. You do it again, you'll get banned. Simple as that.
- Word count - Mad World is an intermediate to advanced role play site. I'm not setting a specific word count, because I'm far too lazy to really enforce it, but try and write at least 300 words per post. If you can't write that much consistently, this site isn't for you. As well, because we're an intermediate to advanced site, good grammar and spelling is to be expected - don't fret if it's not flawless, because it happens to the best of us, but make sure it's not.. awful.
- One account per character - it just makes everything a lot easier to deal with. You can have as many characters as you can handle, but each character has to stay active. If the staff feels your characters are inactive, you'll be informed and asked to do something about it. If you feel you can't handle the characters you have, you can either pass them on to someone else, or delete them.
- Application - if your application isn't finished, make sure to add "wip" in the title, and remove it when the application is finished. If you haven't been accepted (or had an admin comment on something that needs to be fixed) within 24 hours, then you can pm the admin to bring the application to their attention, but not before that. The admin works full time after all. The admin (aka me) also reserves the right to reject any application - be it because the application isn't finished, or the character seems too much like a Mary Sue, or too much like a canon character, unless they are that canon character of course. Make sure the application is filled out properly before saying it's complete - I will point out if things aren't filled out, or if you're missing something.
- Houses - if one house (or year, or sex) has a lot more members than another house, then we will stop accepting characters (unless already started) for that house/year until the others have caught up some. This just keeps us from having a million Gryffindor's and Slytherin's, and no Hufflepuff's and Ravenclaw's.
- Powers - if you wish for your character to have a power (ie, be a metamorphmagus, or werewolf, etc) speak to the staff first. We can't have a site overrun with metamorphmagi and werewolves after all.
- Canons - keep in mind which family the character comes from when making them, but a character from an all Gryffindor family doesn't have to be in Gryffindor. Keep in mind if the character has siblings when writing the application as well, though avoid putting in personality traits unless canon. There are only a few next generation characters who have had their houses confirmed by JK Rowling herself, so those are canon, but others are up to you. If the canon list says one thing and you'd like to have them in a different house, pm the admin and we'll see what we can do.
- House points - Prefects and professors have the ability to add and take away house points (to do so, just pm the admin, and the total will be changed; with reason/the thread it's from.) If you/your character is found abusing this power, it will be taken away from you.
- School year - In September, each student will move up a year, unless it's been stated that they have failed their exams, and won't be moving up a year (fifth, sixth or seventh years only.) Graduating seventh years will be moved into the "adult" category, and the admin will need to be informed about what the student plans to do after school (ie, go to work at the ministry, work else where, etc.) Other than that, the site will run mostly on fluid time, so you can post a thread in June that takes place in September.
